Canon Macro Ring Lite Flash MR-14 EX

Canon Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX, first version, is a professional macro ring flash designed for the Canon EOS system and for close-up use with compatible EF and EF-S macro lenses. The system consists of a control unit mounted on the camera hot shoe and a circular flash head with two independent flash tubes, identified as A and B, which can be fired together or adjusted at different power ratios to control light direction and add depth to the subject. The guide number is 14 at ISO 100, and the system supports E-TTL and E-TTL II metering on compatible camera bodies, high-speed sync, FE Lock, flash exposure compensation, Flash Exposure Bracketing, and manual flash control. The output ratio between the two flash tubes can be adjusted to produce either even illumination or a more directional lighting effect, making the unit particularly suitable for macro photography of small objects, flowers, insects, reproduction work, and technical applications. Focusing lamps and modeling flash functions are included to help preview the lighting effect before exposure. The control unit features an illuminated LCD panel and seven custom functions. The MR-14EX can also operate as an optical wireless master for compatible Canon EX-series Speedlites, allowing additional flash units to be integrated into the lighting setup. Power is supplied by four AA alkaline, Ni-MH, NiCd, or lithium batteries, with support for compatible external battery packs. The combined weight of flash head and controller is approximately 428 g without batteries. As the first-generation model, it should be distinguished from the later MR-14EX II, which introduced faster recycling, LED focusing lamps, and updated controls; when purchasing a used unit, it is advisable to check the condition of the flash tubes, connecting cable, contacts, LCD panel, and battery compartment.
