Multi-power battery pack that extends the operating range of some Nikon digital SLRs. Using this battery pack also enables more convenient use in Portrait shooting mode. The battery pack features an alternative shutter release button, a multi-selector and AF start buttons for use when the camera is held upright, as well as main and sub command dials. It can be powered by one Nikon Li-ion EN-EL15 battery or six standard AA batteries. When the optional BL-5 battery adapter is used, the MB-D17 battery pack can also be powered by Nikon’s EN-EL18/EN-EL18a Li-ion batteries, which are compatible with Nikon’s D4 flagship series cameras and the D5.
